It’s important to have a variety of brushes in different sizes and shapes, so you can achieve desired textures. Here are some of the most useful brushes to have in your art kit. If you are new to painting, it’s good to play around and see what effect you can get from each brush.
Flat Brush
Having a flat brush in a larger size is handy for covering large areas and a smaller size for working on details. You can used this brush on its side to apply more paint or on the edge to create thin lines.
Round Brush
The rounded brush is a really generic and useful brush, good for applying paint when working on the body of your painting, then using the tip you can add in the fine details making sure you are pressing lightly.When working on small areas make sure you down size your brush.
Angled Brush
This can be used to create interesting wavy lines. You can also use it on its edge for thin lines and the tip for find detail.
Flibert
With its unique shape the flibert brush can be great for creating flowers petals. So you it’s shape to your advantage.
Fan brush
Great for applying texture, using it on the flat edge and apply strokes can create the effect of hair. Also you can use the tip of the brush, gently speckle this on the page to create lots of tiny dots, like water splashes.
